Spiritual Mentoring

For the past two years, we have been part of spiritual mentoring group under Tony Horsfall. Tony who lives in the UK, is the author of "The Call to Intimacy". The group is made up of people from different churches (we are the youngest in the group!) and we meet up once every 3 months when Tony is in Singapore.

As part of the course, we had to do readings, reflections as well as spend a quiet day/retreat each time Tony is here. The focus of this programme is to position us to draw us closer and experience the deep love of the Father.

I emphasize position because a lot of times we are unable to hear God because we’re so caught up.

Every retreat has been precious because it is such a luxury to be able to spend extended time, away from the constant noise and just to sit at the feet of the Father. To listen, to talk, to fellowship with Him. At each retreat, the revelation has gotten deeper and deeper.

Tony has been such a real representation of the Father heart of God. It just feels so good to be around him. James and I have been really privileged to be cared by him. I say cared because it is just so much deeper than being mentored or even led. Thank God for you Tony (I hope you are reading this! :)) Oh yes! And the group has been amazing company in this journey too. Everyone has been so humble and it’s great learning together.

YEP! We’ve graduated (even though we’ve been so bad at handing up assignments, thank you God and Tony for the grace extended) from the programme and we’re moving onto the next stage!

Passage of the Season

Psalm 1

BOOK I : Psalms 1-41

 1 Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
       Whatever he does prospers.

 4 Not so the wicked!
       They are like chaff
       that the wind blows away.

5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

My current problem: I meditate on what people say/think more than what God says/think. Worry = Meditate :)

People who norm pray for me, pls keep me in prayer that I will get a breakthrough in this area. Thanks. :) I see breakthru coming coz God is faithful!!

Amazing God

An old friend of James’ popped by just now with her mum. They’ve been friends for long long time (she was 16 i think) and she’s walked a long journey and recently accepted Christ. Amazing story of an amazing God.

What was also amazing was that they brought us snow skin mooncakes. You wouldn’t believe it but i’ve been praying and craving for some. I think i almost specifically asked the Lord for 8 small ones. haha…  And He gave us the best!

Mini Snow-Skin Mooncake with Champagne Truffle and Ganache from Raffles Hotel. They were heavenly!!!!!!!!!!! And i really mean heavenly…. You can get them online on the Raffles Hotel Gift site.

The fool says there is no God

Something struck me today and i wanted to share with you.

As i was praying with James this morning, i realised, also reflecting
from today’s devotion from 40 Days Fast book, that our flesh cries out
that there is NO GOD. The world cries out that there is NO GOD.
Everything within us cries out there is NO GOD. And how much we need to
fight that thought! The world tells us there is NO GOD so live whatever
way you want and do it however you want. Without restraint.

BUT the Spirit of God within us cries out, ailing, THERE IS A GOD. I AM HERE. I LIVE WITHIN YOU.
My Father cries out for me, in the midst of my flesh being weak.

My Father is a Father of relationship. He cries out for me.

We so much need to be reminded in our time and age that GOD IS HERE,
VERY MUCH ALIVE, VERY MUCH SOVEREIGN, VERY BIG, VERY MIGHTY, VERY
ABLE…
That gave Daniel the courage to stand strong and stand firm. It’s not
something he felt, it’s something he knew and constantly fought to
remember.

I pray that today you too WILL know that GOD IS HERE. He is involved whether or not you feel it.
It’s really encouraging…

Renewal

Down at your feet O Lord
Is the most high place
In your presence Lord
I seek Your face
I seek Your face

And there is no higher calling
And no greater honor
Than to bow
And kneel before your throne
I’m amazed at your glory
Embraced by your mercy
Oh Lord I live to worship you

This song has been ringing in my heart. Also sensed today that the Lord
wants me to use this blog for His glory more effectively. Not sure what
that means yet but will begin to seek Him about it. Also was reminded
at communion today that my call is to be His servant - to serve like
how Jesus served his disciples by washing their feet.

Revelation

When we begin to see how God can use us in our
weakness, then we see that we can fail and don’t have to be perfect.
That will give God the opportunity to use us however and whenever.
That’s when we realise that it’s really not about us but about Him and
His power. Coz when we’re weak and something great happens, how can it be about us?

Are you willing for God to use you in your weakness?

When you are down and out and say God here i am, use me and you’ll see the power of God revealed.

I miss YWAM days

Today i was attending the GoFest mission leaders
training by YWAM… all familiar faces jo, reg, tee, julia etc… and
kept thinking throughout that I really miss my YWAM days. Hearing their
story after story of how God is so real and how the Holy Spirit speaks
so clearly even as they pack for the mission trip telling them what to
bring and what to do with it, reminded me of the many trips that i’ve
taken previously.

I remember
ooty, india 2002 - where God gave me a specific message for the women
of india when i was in KL, a week before we got to india and i was
wondering when i will get to share it when we got to india and Sarah
did not put me on for any preaching until the last day of the outreach
where we were ministering in an all women’s small group. that was
awesome, the words just came like that!

india 2002 - Another instance where we were praying for a mute lady in
this obsure village in india and suddenly God asked me to sing “come to
the father” in english to the lady and i did and she started crying
when i asked the field missionary to translate he said that she didn’t
have a father and he asked her to pray and suddenly she started
speaking! wow!

serve 2003 - I happened to be standing next to this girl and she’s
chinese educated and i’m like atrocious at chinese. I asked her if i
could pray with her and she was really hesistant but she said ok and
the Lord gave me 2 words and i prayed really simply in chinese, the
best that i could. And when i mentioned the two words, she started
tearing and i could just feel the breakthru and suddenly her
countenance changed and she was so receptive towards prayer and even
asked if we were coming back again coz she wanted to know more.

philippines 2004 - “LITTLE DAVIDS!” This was one of the best mission
trips that i’ve had the priviledge of leading, actually pretty much
using the mentoring skills that we learnt at Fever 04, same as what we
covered today. So it was great to recap those things. God was so real
in every way, not just to me but everyone on the team. We were shown
signs after signs. During the intercession times we had prior to going,
God kept showing us verses and directed our steps and vision and when
we got there, He kept confirming it! I guess the most lasting impact is
that we’re still in touch w the pastors there and our rep WL goes there
every holidays! In fact she’s right there now! :)

I miss being out there. I miss being surrounded by a group of fanatic i
wanna please God pp. I miss real God stories. I need to hear more. That
my faith may rise. I need to exercise my faith more. That i may see
more.

Thank you God for YWAM days…

Christ is found in the most unlikeliest places. It’s so true. I really need to keep remembering that.

Hide me now under your wings
Cover me within your mighty hand
When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with you above the storm
Father you are King over the flood
And i will be still and know You are God

And i will run to you
To Your words of truth
Not by might
Nor by power
But by the spirit of God
And i will run the race
Till I see your face
O let me live in the glory of your grace

God is awesome

This song has been ringing in my head.

As i come into your presence
Past the gates of praise
Into your sanctuary
Till we’re standing face to face
I look upon your countenance
I see the fullness of your grace
And i can only bow down and say

You are awesome in this place Mighty God
You are awesome in this place Abba Father
You are worthy of all praise
To you our lives we raise
You are awesome in this place Mighty God

The past few days have been wonderful. The Lord has really led us into some unusual business as E reminded me today.

First of all, a prayer and miracle was answered. On Thurs, James n i
prayed that God will put us at the right place to minister to people
and during serve small group yesterday, that’s what happened. Prayed
with a girl and the Lord answered her prayer!

Second of all, another prayer was answered today. James and i wanted to
start a small group but some of our leaders were not in full approval
until the Lord showed us more. So today, as i was sharing w E, she felt
that that’s what the Lord’s been asking her to do to! To start a grp! And we
share the same heart to reach the broken n lost. It’s really God’s
timing coz i’m almost at the verge of letting it go already.

WOW i guess i’ve got little faith. I didn’t expect things to happen so
fast after we prayed that prayer on new yr’s eve to expect unusual
business and not business as usual.

Exciting.

Awesome sunrise

Beautiful sunrise that actually got me out of bed at Bintan on 18th July 6am on a holiday!

Walking by Faith

As i was spending time with God and praying this morning, i just felt i need to share this.

About the cluster retreat, i really wasn’t that keen on having it. I
was really tempted to just forget it about it coz none of the leaders
were able to help out and the older ones were going to have major exams
this year and time was running out for preparation. But yet somehow
deep in my heart, i knew that God wanted to have it and somehow felt
that God was saying that I want to speak to my people, i want to bless
them and they need me.

So just 2 weeks before the expected date of the retreat, i actually
started praying and asking God what he wanted instead of making a
decision based on current situation. I prayed God if you want to have
to retreat, you need to help provide the location and the team to work
on it. And i don’t even know who’s gonna come on such short notice. And
God if you want it, i will do it and i will walk by faith.

Within like a few hours, God provided the location even though it was a
Saturday and most people don’t work on Saturday and i couldn’t confirm
a location in time to tell the youths about the retreat on Sunday. But
God miraculously provided us  the best location - bungalow with
bbq pits and private pool! After that, almost everyone whom we asked to
be on retreat comm agreed willingly (haha, most at least… :)) That
was really the confirmation i needed to continue running…

That was the start to many good things that happened during the retreat.

God is so good. His purposes must prevail above ours. If he calls us,
he will provide. Once again, i was reminded, never plan according to
what i see and what i have in terms of resources but ask God what he
wants and run because he will provide the manna. MY GOD CAN PROVIDE! :) :) Hallelujah! Praise Him!
